The Urban V trail connects Saint-Flour, in Cantal, to Avignon. This beautiful 427 km hike was built around the places that marked the life of Guillaume Grimoard, born in 1310 in Grizac in Gévaudan. He became the 200th pope in 1362, the 6th to reside in Avignon. A fine diplomat, he tried in vain to bring the seat of the papacy back to Rome. He was declared blessed in 1870.

This route offers more peace and quiet for those who want to avoid the heavy traffic of the Stevenson Trail. This trail links four UNESCO World Heritage sites: a section of the Camino de Santiago trail, the Causses and Cévennes, the bridge
of Gard and the Palace of the Popes. It offers varied landscapes: gorges of Bès, drailles of the mythical plateau of Aubrac, Causses, then Cévennes at the foot of Mont Lozère.

The path joins the Stevenson path there to Saint-Jean-du-Gard before descending towards the Rhone valley where you will find the Popes' Palace in Avignon.
