Who are we?
From the Road to the Web...
In August 2010, after more than a year spent traveling the Americas by camper van — especially through Latin America — our family returned home to France, with hearts full of memories and the spark of a new idea.
“We” are Christian, Valérie, and our kids. After 60,000 kilometers on dusty roads across South America, we landed back in the southwest of France and made a quick decision: let’s launch our own venture, doing what we love, on our own terms.
The web is our playground — it’s been our profession for over 15 years. And our first project came to us as naturally as the journey that led to it: MapsCompany.
Why maps? Because during our trip, we often struggled to find the right ones. Whether it was a GPS failure at the edge of the Sud-Lipez in Bolivia, missed turns, or unmarked roads, we quickly realized something: travel maps — road maps, topographic maps, hiking maps — are still essential travel companions.
So we set out to build a comprehensive map catalog. At launch in December 2010, we offered 200 titles. By May 2011, we had over 1,000. And today, in 2025, you’ll find more than 19,000 different references on our site.
Looking for a specific map — of a remote region, a trail, a certain scale? Don’t hesitate to get in touch. We know most of the publishers, and if a map exists, we’ll help you find it.

And just for the story — this is more or less where it all began 🙂: a magical night spent on the Salar de Uyuni, nearly 3,700 meters above sea level, in Bolivia.
