There is plenty to do in the hinterland of Tampere, Orivesi and Kangasala by hiking, skiing, biking and boating. Hikers in the region and the services they need are well taken care of: the Kintulammi camping area was opened in spring 2018. Kaarinanpolku was renovated in summer 2018 to make it even bolder. The structures of the Pukala Recreational Forest have also been completely renovated. There are enough tracks in a good winter from Kaup to Kangasa. In summer, the same routes are attractive for mountain biking. The best kayaking routes are in the sheltered fjord-like bays of Näsijärvi and Vesijärvi in Kangasala. Pukala and its small northern lakes offer the wildest experiences in the region. The Ylängö lakes undulate at a height of up to 169 meters, so they freeze over early in winter for the enjoyment of excursion skaters.
