There's plenty to do in the Tampere, Orivesi, and Kangasala hinterland, including hiking, skiing, biking, and canoeing. The region's hikers and the services they need are well catered for: the Kintulammi camping area opened in spring 2018. Kaarinanpolku was renovated in summer 2018 to make it even more adventurous. The structures in the Pukala Recreational Forest have also been completely renovated. In a good winter, there are plenty of trails from Kaup to Kangasa. In summer, the same routes are attractive for mountain biking. The best kayaking routes are found in the sheltered, fjord-like bays of Näsijärvi and in Vesijärvi near Kangasala. Pukala and its small northern lakes offer the wildest experiences in the region. Ylängö's lakes ripple at heights of up to 169 meters, so they freeze over early in winter, much to the delight of ice skaters.
