Mont Perdu is only the third peak of the Pyrenees, but at 3,355 m it sits at the center of a group of geological constructions, each more exceptional than the last. This ensemble, straddling Spain and France, forms the Pyrenees –Mont-Perdu site, registered since 1997 by UNESCO on the world heritage list, both as a natural landscape and a cultural landscape. The Monte Perdido massif, in addition to the summit itself, includes the cirques of Gavarnie, Estaubé, Troumouse and Baroude, the valleys of Ordesa and Pineta, the canyons of Anisclo or the gorges of Escuain .
