TransAm Trail Section 12

Section 12 begins in Christiansburg, Virginia, and winds through the Appalachian Mountains of the central part of the state. The roads are narrow, and after passing through the town of Vesuvius, cyclists face a demanding four-mile climb to reach the Blue Ridge Parkway. This scenic route is characterized by rolling hills, a strictly enforced speed limit of 45 mph, and an absence of commercial traffic. However, it has no shoulders and is frequently used by recreational vehicles.

Beyond the Parkway, the gentle, rolling hills of the Tidewater region are ideal for cycling. This section includes Colonial National Historical Park, connecting Williamsburg to Yorktown, the endpoint of the TransAm Trail.
