National Geographic's Trails Illustrated map of the Adirondack Park, Northville-Placid Trail combines rich details with useful information to provide an invaluable tool for making the most of your visit to this 130+ mile trail. The Northville-Placid Trail (NPT) is the crown jewel of the Adirondack Park trail system. The NPT was built in 1923 through a remote lake area. This map has been expertly researched and created in partnership with the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK).
This map can guide you off the beaten path and back through the wildest and most remote sections of the 6.1 million-hectare Adirondack Park. The trail is generally traveled from south to north, with hikers beginning in Northville in the Shaker Mountain Wilderness. From there, hikers traverse the Silver Lake Wilderness, past Piseco Lake, and into the West Canada Lake and High Peaks Wilderness areas. The northern end of the trail is near the town of Lake Placid, which hosted the 1980 Winter Olympics. Numerous features are marked along the route, including shelters, designated backcountry campsites, and stream crossings.
