From Sombra, Ontario, the route heads north through the countryside, visiting several Underground Railroad sites before reaching Owen Sound, the terminus of the main route, located on the southern shore of Georgian Bay in Lake Huron. The Windsor option, also in this section, can be used as a loop in its own right, connecting to Section 1.
From Sandusky, Ohio, you can cross Lake Erie by ferry. The route then heads northwest along the shore to Windsor, where many freedom fighters settled after fleeing to Canada. It continues northeast, where it joins the Alternate at Sombra, Ontario.
ABOUT ADVENTURE CYCLING MAPS
Adventure Cycling maps are created by cyclists, for cyclists, and are among the best available for those seeking discovery and adventure in North America. The maps reflect the association's research as well as suggestions from thousands of cyclists who have explored the Adventure Cycling route network. Adventure Cycling develops the best cross-country, looped, coastal, and inland cycling routes available, with turn-by-turn directions for each stage, turn-by-turn navigation instructions for challenging sections, and elevation profiles in mountainous regions.
The maps are waterproof and designed to fit in the window of a handlebar bag or jersey pocket. The maps provide information specific to cyclists: locations of bike shops, food and water sources, and listings of overnight accommodations, including campsites, small hotels, and bike-only accommodations.
